an invention to save lives in floods
The recent terrible loss of life in Asia ..makes one think of that there must be a way to save more lives in especially poor countries.. The problem is that those most at risk are often the ones who have little resources to help themselves..or do they? Is it possible that those who gain a living on and from rubbish dumps ( recycling materials )have within their locality a means to help save lives ,including themselves ? Years ago i used to teach design and used newspaper as a material for research and making objects..it is very strong when laminated..especially when glued together with appropriate adhesives... I wonder if a poor person could form a group to make some kind of life saving device from newspaper using corn or rice starch ..it could be in the form of a box or large chamber which would be attached to a house ready to use or attached to people if a flood was coming...it could be so constructed it would not sink even if filled with water. By making it near and from local materials the people most at risk would benefit directly..They could even make
it a local family enterprise ? If such a device saved only a few lives it would be worth it....It might be you on hoiday !
